Studying at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is a great opportunity to cope up with the Greek culture and tradition. Food diversity is one of the most important elements in Greek culture. There are quite a good number of traditional dishes which are familiar with classic delight Greek food. Here in below some of the common Greek dishes are described with their contents which are served periodically seven days in a week at the Canteen of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. You can enjoy three round meals for free in the canteen as soon as you get the student ID from the University.
Moussaka is one of the most renowned Greek meal which is oven baked casserole of layered juicy eggplant, spiced meat, and a combination of creamy béchamel.
Pastitsio is another Greek favorite food item which is a combination of Pasta, spiced meat, and creamy béchamel. All these ingredients are layered in a pan and baked in the oven.
Souvlaki is very common Greek meat item available in most of the restaurants in Greece. For making this item meats are marinated with red wine and then grilled with spicy flavor.
Yemistes are mainly referred to the stuffed tomatoes with meat, rice, and other elements. Although it’s mainly prepared with tomatoes, in case of unavailability of tomatoes it can be altered with peppers, zucchini or other vegetables item.
Fassolakia lathera is one of the very common vegetarian items which is cooked with tomatoes, olive oil, green beans or other green vegetables. It can be served as side meal or vegetarian main meal.
Youvetsi is a Greek food item prepared with beef stew, tomato sauce and orzo pasta which is baked in a clay oven. Grated kefalotyri cheese is served over the top to make it more delicious.

Tzatziki is a creamy cucumber and yogurt dip side dishes as a compliment for the vegetables and grilled meats. A warm pita bread can taste even better when you dip it into this item.
Baklava is a classic Greek pastry item which is layered with cinnamon spiced nut filling. It’s sweet, crunchy and delicious for sure!
