University of Macerata, Italy
Country of origin: Kosovo
Study course: Master in International Finance, Banking and Economics
Why did you decide to study abroad?
I decided to study abroad to challenge and improve myself, and also for the unforgettable experience. You start a totally new life when you are in a foreign country, language, and culture, finding new friends from all over the world. The best experience for students is one where you learn to stay on your own feet and start being independent. I come from the Republic of Kosovo and, like every student not part of EU, I find it very difficult to be a university student in Europe. But when you believe in yourself, have ambition, motivation and – most importantly – when you work hard (or better say: doubly hard), you are on the way to making your dreams come true.
What made you decide on this university?
University is more than an education. Your university experience gives you the knowledge, skills, confidence and experience to help you make your world better. A university degree can make you more attractive in the eyes of future employers, and increase your
earning potential. It shows that you have the ability and self-motivation to learn at a higher level and the dedication to see your course through to the end. I believe this degree would be the perfect stepping stone to my future career as an economist. It fits perfectly with my career aims.
Also, the university has a great reputation for my field. I chose the University of Macerata because there is a large selection of studies and good lecturers, as well as an excellent social life. The University of Macerata is one of the oldest universities in Italy, and they offer a scholarship for international students from around the world every year. Fortunately, the university selected me as a scholarship student. The university also has a partnership between Princeton University – USA, some universities in China, and other universities in Europe.
How is your experience of studying abroad?
I am so fortunate to have the experience to study abroad at the University of Macerata. Italians have a very relaxed and welcoming culture, making it very easy to get accustomed and meet the locals. I was astounded by the generosity and kindness of their people – and that is what made my experience so amazing. Having the time away from home also allowed me to grow as an individual. Of course, I learned a lot from studying abroad, including becoming fluent in a language; but how I grew as a person was an even larger gain.
It allowed me to uncover hidden courage and realize aspects of myself that I never thought I possessed. To this day I still find new ways in which I’ve grown through my experiences abroad; and even though it was probably the hardest thing I have ever done, I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done. Although it was a challenge, overcoming that barrier led to relationships and experiences that I will always have. How important my time abroad has been for me is something that I cannot express enough. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. It will change your life. You’ll come back a new person.
Why do you think others should not miss out on studying at your university

This initiative started in the 16th century by Padre Matteo Ricci, who was originally from Macerata. The University of Macerata keeps in touch with foreign universities, following programs for research and international cooperation to also obtain recognized qualifications. Macerata is a city in the cente of Italy. The county town of the province of Macerata in the Marche region.
In the center of the city is the university, a modern art gallery, and several museums. The Sferisterio Arena Opera Festival is a 200-year-old building in the neo-classical style that is designed to broadly look like a Roman arena. There is a cluster of interesting museums including the Pinacoteca art museum, where you can see some both Renaissance and modern works of art, while the highlight in the town museum is the ancient remains from both the Roman era and the even older Picena tribe who first settled in the area around 1000 BC. You can’t leave Macerata without visiting it.
