Study course: Master in Anglophone Literatures, Cultures and Media
Why did you decide to study abroad?
I am enthusiastic about meeting new people and experiencing new cultural perspectives. But beyond this, I also think that in a globalized world of today, future scholars should internationalize. I decided to study abroad therefore, not only to experience a new continent different from my continent of Africa but also to acquire postgraduate training in a country reputable for research and education.
What made you decide on this university?
I am interested in Memory Studies and Violence in Africa. In the course of my BA thesis on trauma theory, I discovered Frankfurt Memory Studies Platform–a melting point in memory studies research in the whole of Europe. This drew me to the Goethe University of Frankfurt which directs this program.
How is your experience of studying abroad?
Coming to Frankfurt in the midst of a semester has been one of the most challenging phase of my life. From accommodation to language and to the overwhelming bureaucracy; I faced enormous challenges. However, I am gradually settling into the city just within a month. I love Frankfurt, and would not hesitate to take this route over and over again.
Why do you think others should not miss out on studying at your university
Goethe University is a prestigious university in the heart of one of the most important cities in Europe. This means that you have the opportunity to combine serious studies with city life. Goethe also has reputable professors and so many research institutes. Moreover, unlike many other Universities in Germany, this university has friendly staff. They helped me navigate all through the challenges since I got admission.
