University College London
Country of origin: The Netherlands
Study course: Master in Stroke Medicine
Why did you decide to study abroad?
After studying abroad in Florence during my gap year, and pursuing an internationally-oriented Bachelor’s program in the Netherlands (with an exchange semester in the USA), I really wanted to study abroad again for my Master’s. Studying abroad taught me valuable lessons in which I learned to live independently and, in the process, gain a lot of life experience. Next to these great advantages, I also made life-long friends and discovered new things about different cultures/countries.
What made you decide on this university?
Because I often struggle with making choices, yet knew that I wanted to study abroad, I started looking at universities in the UK. After searching thoroughly for the ideal Master’s program, I came across one at UCL in London. UCL, with its outstanding reputation, offers a program that perfectly suits my interests. Furthermore, London is an amazing city; so I had no choice other than to apply!
How is your experience of studying abroad?
My experience so far has been really good! Living in such a big city can make it difficult to build a new life; but immersing myself in the student life here has been helpful. Also, I have fully adapted to the London way of life.
Why do you think others should not miss out on studying at your university
I think, next to your academics, it is important to also enjoy the university at a social level. UCL offers a wide variety of sports teams and other societies that you can join. I find these very valuable, as you get to know a lot of people, gain insight into the British student life, and build your life abroad.
